COEX Mall / Convention Center
Korean name: Hangul 코엑스
Revised Romanization: Koekseu
McCune–Reischauer: K'oekseu
COEX Mall is an underground shopping mall located in Gangnam-gu Seoul, South Korea It is the largest shopping centre in Seoul. It is the largest underground mall in Asia with an area of about 85,000 square metres. The mall is located at Samseong-dong served by Samseong Station on Seoul Metro Line 2, at the intersection of Teheranno and Yeongdong Dae-ro.
Along with hundreds of shops, the mall houses two food courts, a 16-screen multi-cinema complex, an aquarium attraction, a large bookstore, and the Kimchi Field Museum. It also features a game area which is used to film computer game tournaments (for which South Korea is known) which are broadcast on local television. There are also stages inside and outside the mall which are utilized for public appearances by celebrities and seasonal events.
So my better half and I visited COEX again and we had a great time. The mall is huge. Really. I don't think you can grasp its scale unless you've been inside trying to find something specific like the "On The Border" Mexican restaurant -- which serves up excellent guacamole, chips and salsa, by the way. Before we went inside, we visited the next door mini-mall (as if there needs to be one) where I purchased my first professional lens -- the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM. I had to try it out, so I thought, "Why not take advantage of its speed inside a really, really, really dark place?" And on we went to the Aquarium. It's really cool and there aren't just fish at the aquarium. You can see spiders, snakes, bats, monkeys, elephants, and even chupacabra! Well, maybe not elephants. Here are a few of my favorites:
